As I write this, a couple of weeks from the onset of Spring, drought is at the forefront of media attention and on everyone’s mind with the heartbreaking and devastating situation spreading and worsening by the day. It is wonderful to see the fund-raising efforts and initiative people have brought to bear to get support and assistance to those in need. Widespread rain would be such a godsend to all.
Thankfully, there is no drought in the number of releases of new albums of Australian music for this quarter. Marvellous, moving and magical albums from John Williamson, Graeme Connors, Beccy Cole and Adam Harvey and we have profiled some interesting new overseas acts whose music you may be interested in checking out, for something new. I am always keen to hear fresh and different artists and it seems there is a definite trend toward more substance in lyric content, something the pop country genre has subsumed for too long!
Festivals are in full swing starting with the Gympie Muster and some big tours to anticipate and get tickets before they’re gone as well – Keith Urban, Clare Bowen, Morgan Evans and Kristy List for starters – all great Australian talents doing us proud overseas. International superstar Carrie Underwood is bound to be sensational at the Deni Ute Muster, Margo Price will wow Out on the Weekend and much expectation surrounds the announcement for CMC Rocks Qld headliners in the next few weeks.
Big Red Bash and Groundwater festivals have both had record breaking attendances in July (see photo essay) and Tamworth festival lineups and concert tickets are being announced already so there is much to look forward to.
See you at a festival – come say Hi.
