A SHORTER STORY
Britain’s freshest country sister act, Ward Thomas has revived five popular – however, overplayed – tunes from the last three decades. The CMC Rocks QLD stars and twins, Catherine and Lizzy, have chosen tracks far away from the realm of country to give them an acoustic cleansing. They offer a sweeter take on ‘Walls’ from the self-titled Kings of Leon album released last year, and a surprisingly sultry version of ‘What Goes Around…Comes Around’ by Justin Timberlake while leaving his noughties heavy pop sound at the door. They check in with fellow Brits to smoothen stark musical successes – the more recent ‘Shine’ by electropop trio, Years and Years and Damien Rice’s ‘The Blower’s Daughter’. The brainwave for this EP (sounding like an iPod on shuffle, and recorded in just two days) came after their years of recording acoustic Snug Sessions videos for their YouTube channel. The twenty-three-year old’s weren’t yet born for the Crowded House classic ‘Better Be Home Soon’ release, but if there’s a melody to be found in the trials of relationships, you can bet Ward Thomas will find it and work it into their envious harmonies.
