Congratulations to all the finalists for Golden Guitar awards, and especially our own ‘crew’ Luke O’Shea, Lachlan Bryan and Pete Denahy who have quite a haul between them! Well done and well deserved!
So t’is the Season of Santa and you will find a multitude of options inside for stocking-fillers with tickets to concerts and festivals-firstly all Tamworth has on offer during the festival, followed by tours from Dolly, Kris Kristofferson, Toby Keith, the largest contingent of US artists ever in Aust all under one roof – no, even better – all at one winery!
Every year I plan to do a whip around for the stars’ favourite Christmas stuff – celebrations, recipes, pastimes, memories etc but there is never sufficient space and we run out of time and pages way too soon.
I am planning something of a ‘bush Christmas’ as you will see in Book Reviews. A stack of titles from Aust authors have been sent in, so I opted to feature an all-Australian list. On the subject of our Book Reviews, I am often asked what the criteria is, and apart from the pleasure of sharing a ‘cracking good read’ I frequently choose books purely for language or a curious writing style. The power of words is as much a thrill to me as good music and I hope the books interest and inspire songwriters as well.
You will note the addition of a regular Sydney music scene column that Gareth has put together with the intention of directing locals and visitors in quest of a wide variety of quality country music. He must never be home: all the venues he’s checked out!
Thus to the end of 2013 and hopefully the end of the bushfires, drought and other hardships that beset many across our country from the dry centre to the coast. Many country artists living in the Blue Mountains and central NSW coast regions endured very anxious times and close shaves during the shocking fires.
Enjoy your festive season and the Country Update team would like to wish you all a happy and safe Christmas and a fantastic New Year. Thanks for your support!
Kind Regards, Denise
