Dolly Parton

It’s been many years now since my one and only interview with the one and only Dolly and it was thrilling to have this opportunity to delve into her current music, movies, attitude, milestones, projects and life. There is nobody like her. She is warm, big-hearted, funny, charming and the undisputed queen of the quotable quote – she is candid and pithy, yet imbued with an innate, and enviable, joyfulness.

Earlier, media was littered with her election rebuttal, to the delight of – dare I say? – ‘most’?

“This morning while I was watching the news I saw many reports that I had endorsed Hillary Clinton. My comment about supporting a woman in the White House was taken out of context. I have not endorsed Hillary Clinton nor Donald Trump. I try not to get political but if I am, I might as well just run myself ‘cos I’ve got the hair for it, it’s huge, and they could always use more boobs in the race. But seriously, I have not decided who I’m voting for, but no matter what, we’re gonna be suffering from PMS, Presidential Mood Swings.”

Our task though, is to talk music and her new album Pure & Simple. (Please excuse confusing spelling – where quoting Dolly, I’ve retained the US sp)

Comprised of songs written solely by Dolly who also produced the work, highlights of this love songs-oriented collection include the title track, ‘Outside Your Door’, ‘Head Over High Heels,’ as well as new recordings of ‘Tomorrow is Forever,’ originally recorded as a duet with Porter Wagoner in 1970 and then again with Solomon Burke in 2006, and ‘Say Forever You’ll Be Mine,’ which Dolly originally recorded with Porter Wagoner in 1975. The second disc contains ten of Dolly’s favourite and most-cherished songs from her unparalleled career, a “Best of Dolly’s Greatest Hits.”

“I may not be pure, but I’m as simple as they come! This new Pure & Simple record is really special to me because I’m taking my fans back to my roots. I feel like these songs have a pure, tender side and we didn’t go overboard with arrangements.” Dolly states.
