As I reflect on the year that was 2018 that’s now zooming headlong into the silly season, I think it has been a boomer for country music and there is bigger and better to come also. There have been some albums this year that really raised the bar, and our homegrown music continues to inspire and delight me in its’ diversity and sheer brilliance. Gareth has covered his rootsier favs in his column and mine would have to be Graeme Connors, Adam & Brooke, Andrew Swift, Catherine Britt, Bennett Bowtell & Urquhart…and dozens more that I haven’t had a chance to really ‘imbibe’ properly yet and intend to remedy that over the holidays.
We have seen new festivals in every quarter this year and they have been unstintingly supported by fans who never cease to amaze me – I am sure they would go without food to afford festival tickets!
Next year is promising more huge innovations with C2C coming to Australia for the first time, Homespun in Bris, Murrumbidgee, Big Country at Berry, Maidenwell in May – plus tours galore with Charley Pride and John Prine straight after Tamworth Festival – oh, and Best of British coming to Tamworth – then CMC Rocks Qld and side tours…barely time to get match fit between marathons!
I can honestly say I have not seen so much optimism in our industry since the glory days of the early 90’s, in the Garth stratosphere, and fingers crossed it is the onset of a long upward trend!
All of the team here at Country Update extend our warmest wishes for a joyous and safe festive season and happy holidays to you and sincerely thank you for being part of our country ‘clan’.
