Welcome to the Summer edition and much to anticipate looking to the coming months.
Lots of women doing great things in this issue – Felicity, Harmony, Sara, Maren Morris, Rosanne Cash, and Patty Griffin with new records and what about Kacey Musgraves winning four out of four GRAMMY’S and overall album!
Amazing to compare our diverse and unique Aust storytellers, Sara so earthy and sincere, drilling down to the bone of her beloved and beleaguered rural environment, Harmony word-sculpting cinematic landscapes of her heartland and Felicity so happy and beguiling it made me smile constantly and put me in mind of Alice in Wonderland – skipping for joy from the intro to the last note. (I fully expected Gareth to use the ‘Rabbit’ part of the album title to draw that comparison and elaborate the metaphor!)
Congratulations to all the Golden Guitar winners and all those awarded for their efforts in various areas during the Tamworth festival.
I was especially thrilled to see my great friends Ron and Rosie Adsett (we met back around the first Gympie Muster) inducted into the Hall of Fame.
As owners of the Country Music Store in Charlotte St in Bris for decades, they made both the shop and their home a hub for country music artists and fans alike, and worked tirelessly promoting the music, creating networking opportunities for artists, bringing the industry to Qld, hosting tours to the US in the early 90’s and were essentially the go-to for anyone wanting to know anything about country music. Ron’s early career was at EMI in Sydney, then radio 4KQ brought him to Bris to program an exclusively country format, and he made retail his next venture. Ron served on the Board of the CMA for many years and is still involved with the Australian CM Foundation. Congratulations & so well deserved.
