ISSUE 96 – OUT NOW!

Welcome to the Autumn edition.

I hope your 2020 is shaping up well – with the advent of beautiful rain it is already a better prospect than 2019 here for us.

Tamworth festival was a fantastic start to the year and please enjoy our photo spreads of the special moments. There were two especially remarkable one-off concerts in the Goonga’s Girls night and Concert for Joy celebrating Joy McKean’s songs and her 90th birthday.

Congratulations to all the Golden Guitar finalists and winners and what a night it was! Outstanding performances, memorable moments and milestones galore. Our sorely missed Glen Hannah did himself proud as I lost count of the number of Golden Guitar winners he produced and/or played on – most of them is no exaggeration.

There are several new festivals to mark on the calendar – to me the travel and local attractions of regions hosting new festivals are as important as the entertainment and the three new Queensland ones offer rich pickings. The Maidenwell festival on Mothers’ Day Weekend is in the heart of the Burnett wine and food bowl at the foot of the beautiful Bunya Mountains while unspoiled Keppel Island boasts pure white sand and sky blue water so close to the stage you can indulge in cocktails and surf simultaneously!! (yes, okay that may be an exaggeration!) It is a short ferry commute from Yeppoon on the Capricornia coast near Rockhampton and ‘a little further north’ a month later takes you to the Mackay festival – in the lush sun-soaked tropical Whitsundays … Winter? What Winter??

The one misgiving is that the Mackay event clashes with Gympie Muster weekend – a date unchanged in 39yrs – and it is to be hoped it is a massive success and they change the date so as not to deprive hardcore Qld country fans of an epic weekend of their favourite music and festival frivolity!

Travel safe and see you at CMC if not sooner.
