Back Issue 77

It is a relief to welcome the cooler months and less volatile weather after the recent havoc of floods in both NSW and SE QLD. I was on site for the utter chaos caused by a 270mm deluge in one hour and twenty minutes at Caboolture the first weekend of May, and never want to witness anything like that again. The Urban CM Festival was cancelled two hours from kickoff with campers and patrons relocated and lucky to escape lethal flash flooding, which tragically claimed the lives of five motorists.

On a much brighter note, congratulations are in order for two of country musics’ favourite young performers with the recent marriages of Hamish Davidson of the Davidson Brothers (and our Bluegrass reporter extraordinaire) to his partner Joelene, and the gorgeous Ashleigh Dallas to Chris Wattan –which was a big surprise as the occasion was to be a 21st and belated engagement party.

I hope you enjoy our photo-essay from the inaugural CMC Rocks Qld which was hugely successful as were the gala CMC Awards held in inner city Brisbane’s QPak Theatre on the Thurs night preceding. There’s a regular string of festivals almost every week from now until Summer starting with Broadbeach at the Gold Coast in June, plus some tours of note with Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell doing a fleeting six date fly-by this month and later, including the Gympie Muster, the wonderful Mary Chapin Carpenter with Tift Merritt are to visit our shores.

An interesting contrast of features in this issue from the older gold-standards in Reba, Emmylou & Rodney, Willie & Merle, Dwight etc to two of the brightest torch-bearers in a long time with Kacey Musgraves and Chris Stapleton, plus Jasmine Rae and Ruby Boots.

Happy reading and remember it is always great to hear from you with feedback on what you liked, or what you hated! and any ideas for stories.

Kind Regards, Denise
