Firstly let me welcome Chris Matthews as a new columnist bringing the top end of WA’s Kimberley region alive for readers. Chris is resident muso at El Questro for the winter months and presently on a ‘singing odyssey’ with Luke O’Shea touring the coast of WA from bottom to top.
A stack of excellent releases from many top international artists and locals for this issue.
I particularly enjoyed the Brad Paisley record, but I do admit to being a tad partial to Brad as he’s such a character and a really sweet guy.
Chris Stapleton is arguably the biggest artist in the country world right now so his new one is hotly anticipated – novel concept of bringing it out in two volumes with a second to follow later this year.
Winter must have inspired our writers as the features and interviews I assigned all came back over word count and the universal response was, “I was so into it I got carried away!” So there are mostly longer and more in-depth articles this time around and it makes for way more interesting reading I think!
Lots been happening with festivals and tours in the first quarter of 2017 –see the CMC Rocks photo spread and Zac Brown Band pics – and the action continues with a great lineup for Broadbeach and it is wonderful to see the Gympie Muster has sorted out its’ woes and is full steam ahead for a blockbuster event at end of August.
As I write this I’ve been getting daily updates from Beccy Cole and co on their ‘maiden voyage’ with the Aussie Road Crew venture, taking a tag-along camping tour from the Mountains to the Mulga with entertainment every night (every minute most likely) and ending up at Music in the Mulga. How good for the soul would it be to be out bush under the full moon and canopy of stars sharing campfire shenanigans and laughter with that madcap crew! Jealous!
