Back Issue 93

As I write this the election is four days away, and country music may be the only voice of sanity as there is not much to be had on TV or radio currently!

There is certainly plenty to be optimistic about in new releases and upcoming tours news, with great albums from Brad Butcher, the 2018 New Talent winner and songwriter extraordinaire whose fourth album is a stunner. Amber Lawrence (whose beautiful Port Douglas wedding pic is in Countryline, and congratulations to the happy newly weds) has an album of joyfulness and gratitude in Spark. Reba’s new one is a return to her roots and George Strait has a hit-packed pearler – and of course Lee Kernaghan fans are already receiving their copies of Backroad Nation.

We feature the first Australian interview with Midland ahead of their tour with Tim McGraw – one of the most laughter-filled interviews ever, done ‘on the run’ as it were, chasing a menagerie of pets.

We spoke to Kasey Chambers about the 20th anniversary of The Captain album and how her life has changed and how she ensures it doesn’t in many regards.

As always, we introduce you to a few new artists at various ends of the country spectrum whom you may like to look up and listen to. Traditionalists will love Paul Bogart who is the real deal ala Chris LeDoux – a real cowboy with his own unique take on things.

There is no letup in the festival procession with Hats Off set to chill you out at beginning of July, followed by Big Red Bash (read the BRB Stats in Festivals – impressive!) Groundwater and so on to the Gympie Muster and all the Sept-Oct ones.

There are three new additions to the ‘don’t-miss’ calendar with Bush to Bay, Brisbane Racing Club Country Music Weekend and the Burnett Heads festival.

Catch you at a festival soon!
